Cristiano Ronaldo's statue vandalized with Lionel Messi's name and shirt number

Ronaldo's statue on the Funchal seafront was daubed with Lionel Messi's name

Cristiano Ronaldo unveiled the 11-foot bronze effigy of himself in December 2014 on the Funchal seafront, a few hundred metres away from his own self-financed museum.

On Tuesday night, shortly after the Lionel Messi claimed his fifth Ballon d'Or ahead of the Real Madrid star, the graffiti appeared on Ronaldo's statue.

The figure was painted with Lionel Messi's name and his shirt number, both scrawled in red. The officials removed the name and number after they were alerted of the damage made to the statue of Ronaldo, which is situated on his home island of Madeira.

Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro on hearing the news said ,"It's a shameful act committed out of jealousy towards him". She further said." The rage that some unloved and frustrated fatheads display in public in a disgraceful way which leaves me as a Portuguese person ashamed and sad"
